Stylised Granny Square Crochet

Hi my creative friends! I hope you’re doing well and healthy. Today I’m so excited to be sharing this pattern with you. Yes, its called “Stylised Granny Square” which has charmed me completely. It was inspired by one of the Instagram post where I thought I could give a lacy effect. So I started my granny square construction. I had to frog a lot of times because I had missed the counts somewhere or that my starting chains weren’t right. Finally, I figured out that I’d been complicating it just because I had started the project with a tini tiny difference. So watch out and follow exactly what has been written in the pattern or you’ll end up frogging continuously like me.

Ok, now that it has been clarified, let’s talk a little bit about granny squares before going into the pattern. I like granny squares as it is so flexible and could be used to construct anything out of it. Like sweater or cardigans, bedspread, blankets, bags etc. Well I’ve used it as a coaster in my case. So what would you use your square for?

Without taking much of your time let me introduce you to the “Stylised Granny Square” pattern.

Hide all extra tails.

Blocking: If your square is not a 100% square and has some dips and lumps, its best to block it out. The best result is achieved when you block the square.

Don’t worry if you don’t own a blocking board. You can just use your mattress, flat cushions or pillows to block it.

Steps to block your square:

1)      Soak it in water for about 10 minutes.

2)      Gently squeeze out the water and lay it flat on your blocking mat.

3)      Stretch out the square to your desired size and pin down the corners using blocking pins.

4)      Straighten the sides and pin them down.

Attaching felt: Now, if you want to turn the square into a coaster, cut out felt the same size as that of the square and attach it to the back of the square with a blanket stitch to help support and maintain the shape in the long run. This is optional though.

And once these simple steps are completed, you’ll have an amazing project. You’ll be surprised by how much these simple ignorable steps actually gave the refined finishing touch.

  1. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog that’s
    equally educative and amusing,
and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head.

The problem is an issue that too few people are speaking intelligently about.

I’m very happy that I came across this in my hunt for something relating to this.
