Doily Basket DIY

Welcome back to my site dear creative friends! I hope you’re well. And today I have something exciting to show you. Its this beautiful basket made out of a doily or stylish coasters. And it turns out, the process is super simple. You just need sugar, water and a doily. You could also use a fabric stiffener if you have one. But with stiffener, the yarn looses its lustre just a little bit if its not white. So I want to try out how it does with sugar syrup. Well, this is my first trial basket. I wanted to see how strong or durable would the basket be, and its pretty strong. I can see that the colour didn’t go dull. Let’s check further with these 2 doilies.

I’m using 2 different designs here. This mint is lacier, and the dark grey is more compact, being lacier towards the outer round.

STEPS OF CONSTRUCTION:

We do the following steps to create our beautiful fruit basket:

Step 1: We mix 2 parts of sugar to 1 part of hot water. You could be using more or less materials. So accordingly measure your mixture maintaining the ratio 2:1.

Step 2: Then, heat it in the stove until it dissolves completely. It’s going to be a saturated sugar syrup.

Step 3: Now soak it for a few minutes. Then squeeze out the sugar solution gently.

Step 4: Place it on a bowl, adjust and arrange it.

Step 5: And then you can sun-dry, or put it in your oven if you want it to dry faster. Because sun drying can take up to 2 days to completely dry and harden it. I’m Going to sun-dry it though

Step 6: Once its fully dried, gently unwrap the basket from the bowl. If required, dry it for another hour or two.

And that’s it. We have a sturdy beautiful basket made out of a doily. You can use this beautiful basket for anything you want. Its not only beautiful but strong and sturdy. Not what you expected right? Go on and give it a try and tag me on social media if you make one. I hope you enjoy this process
