Hi beautiful people! Amidst this self quarantine times due to COVID-19, I hope to find you in good health. Its been a difficult month for all of us, and here, I thought maybe this pattern would cheer you up and it’ll help you find something creative to do, to make the best of these trying times.

Crochet a Beautiful Granny Square

Level: Intermediate – Advance

 Abbreviations:

1.      dc  – double crochet

2.      ch – chain

3.      slp st – slip stitch

4.      yo – yarn over

 

 Supply:

1.      Hook – 4mm

2.      Soft peach/ beige (light color yarn)

3.      Orange (medium color yarn)

4.      Black (Dark)

5.      Wide-eye needle

6.      Scissors or any thread cutter

Notes:  There will be a lot of these row repetition, so the terms given below will be used to represent the steps.

Corner  crochet – 3dc, ch2, 3dc for all the corners except the first corner. For the 1st corner in the starting row: After the round is joined, slp st 3 times till the 1st ch2 space, ch3 (counts as 1dc) 2dc, ch2. 3dc 

 

The pattern – {After the corner crochet (1dc, insert hook into the space right below; 2 rows down, pull up a long loop to the height of the current row, go back into the same space (current row), grab the yarn, pull up a loop. Now you have 3 loops on the hook, yo pull through 2, yo pull through 2, 1dc into the same space)}

Pattern:

With Soft peach color – Ch 4, slp st into the beginning ch to form a ring.

Row1: Ch3, 2dc, ch 2, into the ring {(3dc, ch 2,) x 3}. Slp st it to top of the beginning ch 3. Should  have  4 corners of ch2.

Row2: slp st 3 times till the next ch2 space. Ch3, 2dc, ch 2, 3dc into the 1st ch2 space. {(3dc, ch2, 3dc) x 3} – the remaining 3 corners/ ch2 spaces. Slp st to the top of the beginning ch.

Row3: 1st corner crochet. Now, there’ll be a space between 2 corners on all the 4 sides. This is where the pattern will be worked. {(1dc, insert hook into the space right below; 2 rows down, (In this row, the centre of the ring) pull up a long loop to the height of the current row, go back into the same space (current row), grab the yarn, pull up a loop. Now you have 3 loops on the hook, yo pull through 2, yo pull through 2., 1dc into the same space), then corner crochet, then the pattern} all around. Slp st to the top of the beginning ch.

Row4: 1st corner crochet, {(the pattern x 2), corner} all around ending the row with the pattern. (Refer notes) Slp st to the top of the beginning ch. Slp st to the 1st corner, Cut off the yarn and join it with the orange/medium color.

With Orange color

Row5: 1st Corner crochet, {(the pattern x 3), corner crochet} all around ending the row with the pattern. Slp st to the top of the beginning ch.

NB: In the 2nd pattern stitch, draw the long loop from between the previous long loop. See images for more detailed reference.

Row6: 1st corner crochet, {(the pattern x 4), corner crochet} all around ending the row with the pattern. Slp  st to the top of the beginning ch. Slp st to the corner, cut the yarn and join it with the black/dark color.

With Black color

Row7: 1st corner crochet, {(the pattern x 5), corner crochet} all around ending the row with the pattern. Slp  st to the top of the beginning ch.

Row8: 1st corner crochet, {(the pattern x 6), corner crochet} all around ending the row with the pattern. Slp  st to the top of the beginning ch. Fasten off. Hide all extra yarns.
