About me:

My Background & Journey
Hi there, thank you for taking the time to read this section. My name is Kinjinlu. My friends and family calls me Lulu, and that is how the name ‘Lu’s Handicrafts’ was given for my brand. I’m from a small village call Bakuwa in the North Eastern part of India.
In my village, there was no electricity or TV let alone internet access. So there was no tutorial or anything external to teach me. It was my mom who taught me how to knit my first muffler. Moreover, women in my village were taught to knit, crochet or weave as a basic skill for self sustenance. I never knew there were patterns written out for a specific hat or scarf or that they were taught in other parts of the world. The patterns you develop is sellable too. What??? I thought you just knit or crochet on general concept, by measuring one’s head (for beanie) or feet (for socks) etc. and we did learned a little that way. So if you’re not really creative or sharp or practice often, this art or handicrafts were not everyone’s cup of tea. So interest dropped. And so this art had dropped significantly (even lesser as we speak). Therefore, the scope that one could actually build something from this area didn’t cross my mind.
Fast forward many years, gradually I picked up the affinity towards this craft, but remained my hobby until I moved to Delhi to pursue higher studies and got access to internet & saw all that I had been missing; and I learned a whole lot more of new ideas and techniques from YouTube. I began designing patterns and after 7 years, finally created my YouTube Channel, Lu’s Handicrafts in April 2019, a website by Feb 2020, then Etsy shop and Ravelry by March 2020. So, this is how it came to be. Still lots to be done as I’m fairly new to all these exposures and so much to learn. But I felt like I’ve come a long way from where I was.
I know I’ve written quite a lot of my personal shortcomings here, and might have bored you. This is more like a diary. But thank you so much for reading it anyway. But this is also why I wanted to create and make it available for others so that someone might not have to realise his/her passion so late. Well those chances are becoming lesser day by day with all these fast developments all around us. So yeah, I want this to be a space where you can get new ideas and inspiration & also learn from with fun. I hope that you can learn at the comfort of your own space without stressing out and enjoy the process of creating. Hope you’ll find it useful and maybe learn something new.
Oh, and finally my village got phone network & internet access by the end of 2019. Phew!! Still getting used to the idea that I can actually call home anytime now. Haha…
Thanks for the read. Have an amazing time ahead.
